     In his phone call to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US President Joe Biden "stressed that an immediate ceasefire is essential to stabilize and improve the humanitarian situation and protect innocent civilians, and urged the prime minister to empower his negotiators to conclude without delay an agreement to bring home the hostages" in the Gaza Strip. This was announced by the White House.

     In his phone call to Netanyahu, Biden also "made clear the need for Israel to announce and implement a series of specific, concrete and measurable steps to address harm to civilians, humanitarian suffering and the safety of humanitarian workers" and that "state policy United over Gaza will be determined by our assessment of Israel's immediate action on these steps."
