Cleaning window pleats can be a tricky task. However, getting them clean and white is possible – with a few tricks.
If you like sunlight falling into your home and still value your privacy, you can opt for window pleats. The modern version of the blind is available in all colors and looks pretty. But at some point, dust and dirt from everyday life collect here too. So how do you get the delicate pleated blinds clean again quickly and easily? It's not rocket science, as LUDWIGSHAFEN24 knows.
How do I get the pleated blind clean again?
If you want to clean your window quickly and easily, you usually want clean pleats in front of it. For surface dust, it is sufficient to wipe the pleated blind with a feather duster, a microfiber cloth or an anti-static cloth. Light stains and discoloration can also be removed with a cloth and a little cleaner. However, you should be careful not to use cleaners that are too aggressive.
Sometimes the dirt runs deeper. How you proceed also depends on the material of the window pleats. Usually you can simply remove the pleated blind and wash it. However, you have to pay attention to a few things so as not to damage the pleated blind. In addition, not every pleated fabric is washable.
How do I get fly droppings out of pleated blinds?
Fly droppings and other light stains can be easily removed with vinegar. To do this, simply soak a cloth in vinegar water, wring it out and carefully rub the pleated blind. But caution is required, especially when wiping with a damp cloth. This can quickly leave further stains.
If nothing works, you can always wash out the pleated blinds. However, this doesn't work with every material. Specially coated and blackout fabrics cannot be washed. Pleated pleats should generally not be put in the washing machine. To wash the pleated blind, first take it out of the window.

How do I get pleats white again?
The only way the pleated blind becomes new again is by washing it, just not in the machine. So put the removed pleats in a tub with lukewarm water, ideally at 30 degrees. Add mild detergent and allow the pleated blind to soak in for a maximum of 15 minutes. Then rinse it thoroughly with water. To dry it, press it firmly into its folded position and let it drain. You should never wring out the pleated blind.
The pleated blind should then be folded up and allowed to dry for 12 hours. If you are worried about stuck liquid, smells and mold, you can easily open it up a little in between. However, folding it over several hours is important so that it retains its shape. By the way, you can also get room doors clean and white again with a few tricks during spring cleaning. (paw)
