Ramadan is coming to an end. After almost a month of fasting, Muslims around the world are preparing to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, the celebration of breaking the fast at the end of Ramadan. It takes place on the first day of the month of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Muslim calendar following that of Ramadan.
As for the start date of Ramadan, it is a few hours before this celebration that the date will be set by the Grand Mosque of Paris, during the night of doubt, during which the ancestral method of observing the moon prime. Tuesday April 2, the Grand Mosque of Paris announced that the night of doubt will take place Monday April 8 at 6 p.m. It is therefore at the end of this gathering, after observation of the lunar crescent by the Grand Mosque of Paris, that the official date will be announced.

But as with the start date of Ramadan, there are two schools of thought for defining the exact date of Eid-el-Fitr. Unlike the Grand Mosque of Paris, the French Council of Muslim Worship (CFCM) refers to astronomical calculations.
Based on “scientific data” according to the “calculation criteria adopted by the CFCM in 2013”, they make it possible to announce the date of Eid-el-Fitr several days before the meeting. Monday, April 1, the CFCM announced that the end of the month of Ramadan will take place on Wednesday, April 10.

The festival of Eid-el-Fitr should not be confused with that of Eid-el-Kébir, which is the most important festival of the Muslim religion. The latter, which means “great festival”, commemorates the act of submission of the prophet Abraham towards God through the ritual sacrifice of a sheep. On the contrary, Eid-ul-Fitr means “the little celebration”.
