The mayor of Triggiano (Bari), Antonio Donatelli, and Sandro Cataldo, husband of the regional transport councilor Anita Maurodinoia, and representative of the South to Center political movement, were arrested and placed under house arrest on charges of electoral corruption as part of an investigation of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate on an alleged purchase and sale of votes for the 2021 Triggiano municipal elections.
The investigation was started after the discovery, on 6 October 2021, of fragments of photocopies of identity documents and tax codes in a rubbish bin .
