With the reference to “respect and respect,” a gardening company criticizes a typical habit of its customers. The note isn't particularly well received.

Munich – Retail signs always evoke emotional reactions. These days, the notice that a Rewe team placed above the refrigerated shelf and which only consists of four letters and three exclamation marks is being celebrated. Other notices caused criticism: a customer felt patronized, and a note in the Rewe freezer department was also not well received.

Nursery forces customers to wait – Reddit discusses notice

Now the alleged posting of a garden center is causing discussions on Reddit - and not just positive comments. It has not been confirmed that this is real and current, but there is nothing to indicate that it is a fake. The photo shows what the store is called. But there are at least two nurseries with this name in Germany. When asked by our editorial team, one replied that it was not her, the other left an email unanswered for a week.

The wording of the note (spelling taken from the original) is as follows: “Thank you, dear customer, for showing respect and regard for our work and for waiting here in the store while we are making your bouquet and not going shopping . Thank you very much for that!!!” The gardening team signed it.

Every sign has its story, so they say, and this one is clear: one or two customers will have ordered a bouquet and decided not to wait in the store in favor of running errands. The gardening team doesn't seem to have liked that at all. She probably found this habit so disrespectful that she wrote the note. Now something like this is of course highly subjective and the florists have every right not to approve of it.

“What’s the point of the florist if I watch him work?”

Conversely, it also seems legitimate for Reddit users to turn up their noses at the notice. “I don’t understand the point, what’s the point of the florist if I watch him work?” says one – and the answer he receives in capital letters: “RESPECT AND ATTENTION”. Another says: “What rubbish, they didn’t watch me earn the money with which I paid for their work.” Several judged with the term “passive-aggressive”. And one user is bothered by the wording: “'Thank you for doing this or that' signs make me aggressive. You should write, 'Please do this or that'.”

So many people tear the piece of paper apart. But what do the florists say? Several people speak out who - which of course cannot be verified - seem to know the industry. One person who worked in this job said: “I don't care what people do during that time, as long as they pay beforehand. It has happened often enough that someone has put together something that is very expensive or otherwise not sellable and then doesn't come to pick it up after shopping. The bouquet is predestined to be a slow seller for the next few days and then to be thrown away." This gets approval: "Seed. I actually prefer it, then I can tell the customer a time when I have finished it safely, even if I may have to make a quick payment in between, and I don't get any nasty looks from either the customers waiting at the checkout or from the buyer I might have to put the ostrich down every now and then.”

There is also understanding for the note: “Often enough a bouquet is not picked up.”

One user says in general: "I'm not a florist, but I HATE it when customers stare at my fingers while I'm working." Another comment goes: "I was always angry in the carpentry shop when customers didn't give me 6 Watched the gluing process for hours. Respect and consideration!!!”

Another person - apparently also with experience in the industry - expresses understanding: “Often enough a bouquet is not picked up, but then something is complained about the composition etc., which is why it is better to have the customers there if it is a small shop "It can be annoying to have several unplanned, tied bouquets because there isn't that much space, etc." Lidl once made a very funny sign fail when it came to plants.
