Does your dog eat everything that gets between his teeth? You are not alone in this. In the case of strawberries, the all-clear can be given – at least for the most part.
Many dogs are true omnivores. They eat anything that is not picked up from the ground quickly enough. In some cases this is dangerous. Cocoa contains the substance theobromine, which causes symptoms of poisoning in the dog's body. Because dogs can break down theobromine much more poorly than humans. The lethal dose is correspondingly low. For small dogs up to five kilograms, just one third of a bar of dark chocolate can be fatal.
Many dog owners also worry if their pet gets fruit in its paws. Strawberries are very popular with some four-legged friends. What's healthy for humans can't hurt dogs either - right?
Digestive problems and allergies possible due to strawberries
In fact, strawberries don't pose a problem for dogs. However, there are animals that don't tolerate the fruit very well. Eating too many strawberries can cause stomach pain and diarrhea. It's best to first test how well the dog tolerates the fruit by feeding only a small amount. The risk of an allergic reaction can also be assessed in this way. Is your darling feeling well after eating a small amount of strawberries? Then there is nothing wrong with a slightly larger amount. There is no rule of thumb as to how many strawberries a dog can eat daily. One piece of advice, however, is to classify strawberries as a treat and not to give them too often. For example, two to three strawberries are no problem if the dog tolerates them well.

Prefer ripe, organic strawberries
If your dog loves strawberries, you should follow a few preparation rules:
It's best to choose organic quality because the pesticide contamination is far lower than with conventional strawberries.
Wild strawberries should be washed particularly well to minimize the risk of fox tapeworm infection.
Only feed ripe fruits - green spots indicate that the strawberry is not yet ready to eat.
Why do dogs get strawberries every now and then?
The fruits provide the dog with valuable vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, folic acid, potassium and magnesium. Secondary plant substances such as fiber and antioxidants also help keep your animal healthy.
