Nearly 26,000 children - or just over 2% of Gaza's child population - have been killed or injured in Gaza in 6 months of war. This was declared in a note by Save the Children, the organization that has been fighting for over 100 years to save girls or boys at risk and guarantee them a future, also underlining that the conflict has caused unprecedented damage to the healthcare system and deprived girls and boys of access to instruction.
In the six months since the October 7 attacks, more than 13,800 children have been killed, 113 in the West Bank, while more than 12,009 children have been injured in Gaza and at least 725 in the West Bank, according to data from Ocha and the Gaza Ministry of Health.
At least 1,000 children have had one or both legs amputated and around 30 of 36 hospitals have been bombed, leaving only 10 partially functional. Almost 90% of school buildings were destroyed and around 260 teachers were killed. 70% of homes damaged or destroyed and 1.4 million people are using schools as shelters. Half the population is facing a catastrophic level of food insecurity, while the north of the Strip is at risk of famine. The world must act now - is the appeal of Savethe Children - to guarantee an immediate and definitive ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian access.
