The supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, paid homage in the evening in Tehran to the coffins of the seven Iranian 'soldiers' killed on Monday during the attacks blamed on Israel on the consulate of the Iranian embassy in Damascus.
The Iranian head of state prayed for the deceased in front of the coffins covered with the Iranian flag. This was reported by the official IRNA agency, specifying that Khamenei was surrounded by senior military officers.
The remains of the seven members of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic, were repatriated to Iran last night, three days after they were killed in the raid that destroyed the consular building of the Iranian embassy in Damascus.
"The bodies of the martyrs have arrived from the Iranian embassy to Mehrabad airport" in Tehran, the Isna agency announced, broadcasting a short video showing the coffins being transported by a vehicle. The funeral ceremony will take place tomorrow in the center of the Iranian capital on the occasion of World Quds Day (Jerusalem) - which dates back to the victory of Iran's Islamic Revolution - which will be characterized as every year by a demonstration of solidarity with the Palestinians and against Israel.
