There are some special house rules in supermarkets. But this unusual instruction concerns the employees themselves - probably found in a Rewe store.

Munich – Supermarket employees also have to shop. Of course, it's a good idea to shop directly at the store you already know well. However, a customer noticed a sign that seemed to regulate this very precisely in a market. According to the company, it is supposed to be a Rewe branch.

Employee rules at Rewe? Post causes discontent

“Regulations on employee purchasing” is written on the notice board of the local market management, which a user found on the Reddit platform “at the employee room” and shared with other users. “There are set times for employees to shop.” This is then underlined in red: “The early shift shops after the end of the shift” and “the late shift before the start of the shift.” Shopping during the break is also simply “forbidden”. It goes on to say, again underlined: “The break is for relaxation and not for shopping.” This means everyone has the chance to stick to the 15 minutes.

Reddit users make fun of Rewe: “Don’t poop during the break”

The employees probably used their break to do their own shopping instead of relaxing during the break. This is efficient in terms of time. But the store management probably doesn't want the employees to be too exhausted for work - or has completely different reasons. The post sparked a lively discussion on Reddit.

“Shop somewhere else during the break,” suggests one user – a solution that the store management would probably like even less. Others make fun of the unusual rule. After all, it is a break during which employees should actually have the freedom to do what they want. “Please don’t go pooping during the break, this is for relaxation,” says one user, alluding to the sign. There was recently praise for a Rewe employee on Reddit.

Most users criticize the market management. “It’s none of your employer’s business what you do during your break,” writes one user. Some employers are “to be thrown in the trash”.

User surprised about Rewe rule for employees: “Is that something that no one is allowed to see?”

Another user suspects that the store management is probably in the right: “In this case, the employer can make this regulation, at least as far as purchasing in its own store is concerned. Simply because he has house rules. He can basically prohibit employees from shopping in the market at any time.” But he still “absolutely doesn’t understand” the regulation. “Is this something no one can see? And employees usually take a break when there’s nothing going on,” he says.

However, another user speculates that the employees may have overstayed their break because of their own purchases: “It sounds like many employees stay longer during their break because of their purchases, which is why shopping was then banned. From that point of view, I think it's ok." You can find out here to what extent the employer can determine when you can take a break.

. On the one hand, there is no indication in the post that it is actually a poster from a Rewe store. On the other hand, the supermarket chain makes it clear: “There is no such regulation at Rewe either.”
