“Hartz und cordial” star Jean reveals his earnings including citizen’s money. In fact, he thinks what he earns per month is unfair.
Munich - The focus of the debate about citizens' money is the question of whether recipients of citizens' money earn too much and therefore don't want to work at all. According to Jean from the
RTL-Zwei
program “Hartz und Herzen” yes, because according to his own statements he “actually doesn’t want to have that much money”. But because his training salary was topped up with social benefits, at the end of the day he receives 1,500 euros per month - “good money,” the father of two knows.
“Too much money for my standards”: Citizens’ benefit recipients would be satisfied with less
“I actually don’t want to tell you that because I already get a lot of money – my training salary and that from the job center,” said the citizen’s benefit recipient from Rostock. “For people who work full-time, it’s actually quite unfair what I earn.” Jean points out that he earns more than some full-time workers. According to a survey by the Federal Statistical Office, only 1.4 percent of full-time employees in Germany earned less than 1,500 euros gross in 2023.
The 22-year-old's statement is not entirely true. Nevertheless, he emphasizes that he does not approve of the 1,500 euros per month: “I think that is bad.” He continues: “More money also means spending more. That's just too much money for my standards." Jean also doesn't know what to do with it, reports
DerWesten
. “I have money and I’m actually bored. Buying other things isn't too expensive for me, but there's just nothing. “I have everything,” the portal quotes him as saying.
Training salary wasn't enough: Citizen's benefit recipient originally didn't want citizen's benefit
Why does the father of two receive citizen's money if it is too much for him? The origin of the misery can be traced back to his inadequate training salary. According to his own statements, he is having a lot of fun training to become a salesman. That's why his plan was to apply for the so-called vocational training allowance (BAB). But in the end that would have been too much money, says Jean. “Then they said that I should rather claim other benefits.” So back to citizen’s money.

In fact, the training salary of a salesperson is only a fraction of the average gross salary in Germany of 4,323 euros calculated in 2023. The
Bildungs.de
portal
states that the average earnings of a prospective salesperson in the first year of training is between 785 and 900 euros. In the second year of training you can expect between 835 and 1065 euros. The starting salary, on the other hand, is around 2,000 euros gross per month - half of the average salary in the country.

Thanks to the additional citizen's money, the 22-year-old is now doing very well financially. “I get good money. That’s a lot compared to a normal worker,” he admits. But where does his monthly budget go now? He already has an idea: Jean would like to get a cat. “When the money flows again, I’ll take a look at the animal shelter,” he explains.
A young TV couple from Rostock proves that citizens' money isn't always enough: Jasmin and Maik from the show "Hartz and warmly" are expecting another child, maybe even twins. They are sitting on a mountain of debt and are barely making ends meet with the monthly amount of 1,600 euros. Your fixed costs amount to 900 euros per month.
