Something unusual happened to a father in Denmark. After he took an Ikea glass out of the dishwasher, it suddenly exploded.
Munich – Unloading the dishwasher is not a favorite activity for everyone. Glasses often still need to be dried. A father now reported an incident in which his Ikea glass shattered and even “sizzled”. In Germany, however, the company is planning a massive change.

Ulrik Valeur reported on his special incident with an Ikea glass. After taking it out of the dishwasher and putting it down, he just turned away briefly. As he said, the glass suddenly broke for no apparent reason. The father noticed this through an explosion: “I put it on the table and suddenly I heard a bang, like a real table bomb. There was really a certain power in it.”

, Ikea Germany also commented on the cracked glass. “Our POKAL glasses are made from tempered glass. Tempered glass has a load capacity that is around five times higher than that of non-tempered glass.” So the tempered glass should actually ensure greater safety: “If it breaks, it falls into many small (square) pieces that have hardly any sharp edges. Ordinary glass often breaks into sharp shards of glass, making it more dangerous and can cause serious damage.”
Exploded Ikea glass is said to have even sizzled
It is unclear how the alleged explosion of the Ikea glass occurred. “Glass is generally a fragile material, but is it not common for tempered glass to simply shatter,” writes Ikea Germany to the editorial network IPPEN.MEDIA. The company suspects that the glass was already damaged and warns: scratches or a blow could have created tension that caused the glass to shatter. “That could have led to it breaking hours, or even months later.”
Nevertheless, Ikea writes clearly: “Our POKAL glasses are safe to use. Only in rare cases can tempered glass break for no apparent reason.” The father from Denmark was particularly shocked because of his children: “What could have happened if my children had drunk it while it was exploding.” According to his statement, there was so much pressure in the explosion that shards fell into the living room: “But the strangest thing was that the glass sizzled afterwards.” An Ikea cashier shared an insider tip.
