Researchers want to be able to successfully defeat lung cancer in the future with a newly developed vaccine. The vaccine trains the immune system.
According to the
Robert Koch Institute (RKI),
lung cancer is one of the prognostically unfavorable tumors. A so-called lung carcinoma is one of the deadliest types of cancer, along with breast cancer and colon cancer. The following applies: the more advanced a tumor is, the worse the prognosis for the patient. In order to curb the development of cancer, scientists are researching suitable methods of treatment and prevention. According to the British news website
UNILAD Tech,
the world's first vaccine against lung cancer is
currently in development.

Scientists from the University of Oxford, the Francis Crick Institute and University College London (UCL) are currently researching the development of the lung cancer vaccine “LungVax” for people at high risk of lung cancer. To advance its development, the researchers received 1.7 million pounds (approx. 1.98 million euros). According to Professor Tim Elliott, leader of the LungVax project, cancer is an extremely difficult disease to treat. The immune system therefore has difficulty distinguishing between the normal state and cancer.
However, the researchers have high hopes for the vaccine, which is intended to help fight lung cancer in its earliest stages. According to Sarah Blagden, Professor of Experimental Oncology at the University of Oxford and founder of the LungVax Project, the likelihood of successful cancer treatment is higher if it is given to patients at an early stage. The vaccine is being developed to stop it developing in people at high risk and could cover about 90 percent of lung cancer cases.

How the lung cancer vaccine works in the body
Using similar technology to the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, the vaccine activates the immune system to kill cancer cells and stop lung cancer using a strand of DNA. The vaccine trains the immune system to recognize certain proteins in lung cancer cells and eliminate them.
