Thousands of people attended the funeral in Tehran of the seven members of the Revolutionary Guards killed in the raid, blamed by Iran on Israel, on the consular building of the Iranian embassy in Damascus. “Death to Israel,” “Death to America,” the participants chanted.
The funeral ceremony took place as part of the celebrations for the International Day for Jerusalem (International Quds Day), an anniversary linked to support for Palestine and opposition to Israel, which is observed on the last Friday of Ramadan, the holy month for Islam, and which was held for the first time in Iran in 1979, following the Islamic revolution.
The Secretary General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Ziad Al-Nakhlah, participated in the demonstration in Tehran, Mehr reports, while the celebrations also took place in other Iranian cities, such as Mashhad and Isfahan. Yesterday evening, the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, paid homage to the Pasdaran killed in the Damascus raid, in a ceremony in Tehran, which was also attended by the families of the victims.
