Thousands of schools in the Philippines have suspended in-person lessons due to record heat: the Ministry of Education announced. Temperatures of 42-43 degrees were expected in many parts of the country today, a level considered "dangerous", the state weather service said. 40 degrees were expected in the capital Manila, a level at which authorities advised "extreme caution".
According to official data, more than 5,000 schools have closed their doors in the Southeast Asian archipelago, sending more than 3.6 million students home.
