Whether milk ice cream, water ice cream or even sorbet, different types of ice cream are also differently healthy. The healthiest variety is a childhood classic.

Ice cream in summer provides the refreshment kick you need on hot days. It doesn't matter whether you buy milk or water ice cream, they are all refreshing and delicious. Plus, each of us has our favorite variety. But if you pay particular attention to a healthy diet, you should know the healthiest and lowest-calorie ice cream.

Which ice cream is the healthiest?

As a child, your heart still belongs to water and milk ice cream - preferably chocolate or vanilla. In adulthood, your horizons expand to include sorbet and possibly the ice cream parfait. When you're a child, you usually don't care whether you eat healthily or how much sugar there is in your delicious food. But excitingly, children in particular love the healthiest ice cream without even knowing it.

Who would have thought? Water ice cream or sorbet are made without milk, but instead from water or fruit juice, depending on the variant. In a test by Stiftung Warentest, water ice cream is the lowest in calories with 66 to 110 kcal per 100 grams of ice cream, while fruit ice cream is in second place with 51 to 157 kcal per 100 grams.

What is the ice cream with the fewest calories?

If you don't like water ice cream or sorbet, you can still safely use milk ice cream. Here too, there are some that contain less than 80 kilocalories per ball. This means that some types of ice cream are healthier than the healthiest sweets.

For example, lemon ice cream is one of the lowest calorie types of ice cream, along with water ice cream and sorbet. With only 40 calories per ball, you can grab it boldly. Not surprising, because the lemon is also considered the healthiest fruit. The citrus fruit is followed by another classic, strawberry ice cream. The healthiest milk ice cream flavors in the HEIDELBERG24 overview:

  • Lemon egg (40 calories per scoop)

  • Strawberry ice cream (52 calories per scoop)

  • Forest fruit ice cream (53 calories per scoop)

  • Yoghurt ice cream (54 calories per scoop)

Which ice cream has the least sugar in it?

Sugar is also an ingredient that makes ice cream unhealthy. And here too, Stiftung Warentest took a look and made a comparison: the water ice also scores points. According to the consumer magazine, it has the lowest sweetness of all varieties, with an average of 10.4 to 26.7 grams per 100 grams of ice cream.

In contrast, fruit ice cream can contain a lot of sugar at 13.1 to 36.3 grams. Compared to the ice cream classics like chocolate or vanilla, that's a lot. Even vanilla ice cream contains less sugar than fruit ice cream, with 12.7 to 29.2 grams of sugar per 100 grams of ice cream. According to the test, chocolate also contains “only” 20.4 to 27.7 grams of sugar per 100 grams.

Is it healthy to eat ice cream every day?

Hot days rarely come alone in summer, you feel the desire to eat ice cream every day. Experts have also checked whether this is healthy and many people will be pleased with their results. Because according to them, eating ice cream every day is not harmful to your health. But the same applies here: it's the mass that counts.

If you eat ice cream every day, you should stick to one or two scoops. Other tips for healthy ice cream eating include conscious enjoyment, choosing low-calorie varieties, no additional toppings and, if possible, choosing a cup instead of a waffle. If you like to make your own ice cream, you can pay careful attention to the ingredients and, if necessary, use one of the healthiest milk alternatives instead of milk. (rah)
