Be it at work or privately: many people receive a large number of emails every day. It's not always easy to keep track of things.
Do you have unread messages piling up in your inbox? American scientists found that an overly full mailbox and clutter in the inbox can lead to stress and dissatisfaction. Since many important documents are now only sent online instead of by post, the email inbox is one of the most important places for organization. In a representative survey, test subjects were asked how they handle their personal documents such as invoices, online subscriptions and other important emails in their inbox.
The result: around 50 percent of participants leave their electronic documents where they arrive. Only half of those surveyed stored invoices and other documents somewhere else, such as a computer or in a cloud. But: For most participants, a disorganized inbox led to problems such as missing invoices and a lack of overview of important correspondence, as the scientific magazine
Science Alert
reports.

Tips for more order in your email inbox
Not least at work, it is important to keep an overview. The following tips can generally be helpful when sorting emails:
Sort your emails into categories and folders. It is also advisable to save important documents on your computer or in a cloud.
Add important appointments and notifications from emails to your calendar immediately.
Newsletters that you do not read should be unsubscribed.
If you are still undecided whether you want to delete an email, the archive function can help. Move the emails from a year to a new email folder, advises the online portal
Handwerk.com
. This creates a basic order in the archive, which helps when finding an older email.
A to-do list can remind you to clean your email inbox regularly.
