"The full reconstruction of the city and the villages is a duty and a commitment to continue. For every social component, first of all for the institutions. As such it is the work of reconnecting the social fabric". Thus in a statement the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in memory of the earthquake that struck L'Aquila fifteen years ago.

"The earthquake of fifteen years ago, on the night between 5th and 6th April, shocked L'Aquila and the surrounding area, taking more than 300 people from their lives. The destruction struck the historic centre, the outskirts, the nearby villages, leaving the entire national community astonished and shocked", recalls Mattarella. "The country - he underlines - was able to react, mobilizing all its energies, while the inhabitants of the area hit by the earthquake found the strength to start rebuilding their homes, workplaces, schools, to recover - as far as possible - their artistic beauties. The path of rebirth of that land has become a goal and a common civic heritage". The head of state underlines the importance and need to continue along the path of reconstruction of places, "as is the work of reconnecting the social fabric".

"It is a challenge that concerns Abruzzo, its internal areas and, at the same time, constitutes a passage to innovate and offer the new generations the possibility of realizing their projects in the safety of an environment that knows how to deal with wounded territories, or risk due to the unpredictability of nature, places of new opportunities. The memory of such tragic events must therefore become a warning and commitment for the whole country, to never neglect the value of human life and the integrity of communities", he concludes.

"L'Aquila is a model for the response that the State has given since the management of the emergency, through the reconstruction up to the regeneration of recent years, the first effects of which are being seen": thus Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. "The government is committed to providing ever greater certainties. A commitment, ours, that we will continue to carry forward with great attention to the city and the internal areas, a strong and proud territory that has shown great dignity in the most difficult moments", she adds .

"I address a thought to the many who, in various capacities and in different phases, provided their contribution: the Italians who showed great solidarity and closeness; the volunteers who mobilized in the following days and months; the women and men, of Institutions and others, who with self-sacrifice and commitment contributed to carrying out a reconstruction that has become an example", states Meloni again. The Prime Minister recalls what the government has done: "With our first budget law we have allocated, with a multi-year vision and as never before, the necessary resources for local authorities. We have also simplified the legislation for public reconstruction and released the funds to complete the reconstruction of the schools and found those to complete the Municipal Theater of L'Aquila. A commitment, ours, that we will continue to carry forward - he assures - with great attention to the city and the internal areas, a strong and proud who showed great dignity in the most difficult moments.
