Tennis: Fognini gives up on Monte Carlo, 'I have to rest' - Tennis

Highlights: Fabio Fognini will not be at the Masters1000 in Monte Carlo. The Ligurian announced his withdrawal on social media shortly before the match in which he was supposed to face Lorenzo Sonego. "Everyone knows how much I love this tournament. Unfortunately my body is not ready at the moment and I have to take a few days to rest and get back into shape," he wrote on Instagram. The Italian is the first Italian ever to win a Masters 1000. He was champion in 2019 in Montecarlo.

Fabio Fognini will not be at the Masters1000 in Monte Carlo. Fresh from the quarter-finals in Marrakech and in the draw in the qualifiers in the Principality, the Ligurian announced his withdrawal on social media shortly before the match in which he was supposed to face Lorenzo Sonego.


    "Everyone knows how much I love this tournament - wrote Fognini on Instagram - Unfortunately my body is not ready at the moment and I have to take a few days to rest and get back into shape. Monte Carlo, you are my second home. I hope to have another opportunity before say hello."


    A painful forfeit for Fognini, champion in 2019 in Montecarlo and the first Italian ever to win a Masters 1000.
