Ukrainian soldiers "are attacked massively and I would even say routinely by guided aerial bombs (Russian, ed.) which wipe out our positions": Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told the Financial Times. According to defense officials in Kiev, Russian forces have launched about 3,500 guided aerial bombs against the country since the beginning of the year, a 16-fold increase compared to the whole of 2023. In the third week of March alone, Russia "launched over 700 guided aerial bombs", President Volodymyr Zelensky recently specified.
"Russian guided aerial bombs are very simple in essence, so you can't block them, you can't hide from them, the only way to protect yourself is to shoot down the bomber carrying them," Kuleba said, stressing that to achieve this, the Ukraine needs significantly more modern air defense systems.
