With the right detergent, your bed linen will be hygienically clean again. What exactly you need depends primarily on the material.
Bed linen made from insensitive material can usually be washed at 60 degrees. At this washing temperature, duvet covers and sheets become hygienically clean again. According to
the Federal Environment Agency
(UBA),
lower temperatures of 30 or 40 degrees are sufficient for normally soiled bed linen. The only question is which detergent is best to use to clean the bed covers.

Which detergent you should use to wash bed linen depends primarily on the material and color of the fabric:
It is best to wash white bed linen made of cotton or linen with a heavy-duty detergent. The bleach contained ensures that the fabric remains bright white and does not turn gray over time. In addition, stains can be optimally removed.
For colorful bed linen made from cotton or linen, use a color-friendly dye or mild detergent.
For bed linen made of microfiber and satin, a mild detergent is best.
Bed linen made from delicate wool or silk requires a mild or wool detergent and should be cleaned on the appropriate wool cycle in the washing machine.
However, always pay attention to the information on the washing label, which often contains information about the detergent. You should pre-treat stubborn stains on your laundry with stain removers from the drugstore or appropriate home remedies, for example for blood stains. Especially when you wash the bed linen at low temperatures, heavy soiling often does not come off completely.

How much detergent do you need?
How much detergent you need depends on how dirty the bed linen is, the amount of laundry in the drum and the local water hardness. Information on the correct dosage of detergent can be found on the back of the packaging. If you don't know the hardness of the water, you can ask your water supplier.
