Thomas Tuchel, who will leave Bayern next summer, will still remain on the bench until the end of the season, despite a succession of negative results. This was assured by the sporting director of the Bavarian club, Max Eberl. "I don't know what would have to happen for him not to stay on the bench until the end of the season," the manager told reporters before flying to London, where Bayern will face Arsenal in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday.
Beaten on Saturday in Heidenheim (3-2), a week after the home debacle against Borussia Dortmund (2-0), Bayern, eliminated in the round of 16 of the German Cup by a third division club, is 16 points behind Bayer Leverkusen who are dominating the Bundesliga. And in 28 championship days they suffered six defeats, an unprecedented figure since the 2011-'12 season. The club announced in February that Tuchel's contract, initially valid until summer 2025, would be shortened by a season and terminated this summer.
But Eberl assured that the bond between the coach and his team has not been broken. "If everything was destroyed, then we should have worried. I haven't had that impression in the last five weeks," he insisted.
