This celebration of breaking the fast takes place on the first day of the month of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Muslim calendar following that of Ramadan. As for the start date of Ramadan, it is a few hours before this celebration that the date is set by the Grand Mosque of Paris, during the "Night of Doubt", during which the moon is normally observed according to a ancestral method.

A date already set by the CFCM

But this Monday, the religious commission of the Grand Mosque of Paris “noted the impossibility of observing the new moon and thus determined the date of Eid-el-Fitr in France as Wednesday April 10, 2024”, explains- she said in a press release.

This date corresponds to that set earlier by the French Council of Muslim Worship (CFCM), which refers to astronomical calculations. Based on “scientific data” according to the “calculation criteria adopted by the CFCM in 2013”, they make it possible to announce the date of Eid-el-Fitr several days before the meeting.

Two prayers will be organized this Wednesday by the Grand Mosque of Paris for Eid: one at 7:30 a.m., and one at 8:15 a.m. “The Grand Mosque of Paris wishes its best wishes to the Muslims of France and the world,” it continued in its press release, which also addressed its thoughts and prayers “to the people of Gaza and their inhuman suffering.”
