"Yet another unacceptable episode which demonstrates the importance of determinedly combating pickpocketing and forced begging, phenomena which affect not only the direct victims, but also those who, in some cases, are forced to practice them". Thus Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni commented on social media yesterday's news of the woman beaten by her exploiters for the little loot they gleaned on the Rome metro.
"The Government has had the courage to intervene on this phenomenon, to which others have turned a blind eye, with the anti-pickpocketing measures contained in the Security Package, currently under consideration by Parliament - adds the Prime Minister -.
We will continue to implement this work to stop the racket pickpocketing and protect the safety of all citizens, especially in stations, subways and in all sensitive areas of our nation".
