Casual start at the Bergson Kunstkraftwerk: a new sound for Munich

Highlights: The Bergson art power plant in Aubing is open. At five “housewarming” parties you can get to know the new cultural location in the west of Munich. “Peter and the Wolf” is simply a damn good story, which is probably the main reason for its success. ‘There will be a lot more to come,’ promises Roman Sladek and calls on the guests: “Bring the Bergson to life!” Then the artistic director of the house takes up his trombone and plays a very casual one together with drummer Marco Dufner and keyboard wizard Georg Stirnweiß. Mix of jazz and electronic music. A fresh sound in the West – driving, excitingly different. He only knows one direction: forward.“Just as Peter is not afraid of the wolf, Michael and Christian Amberger and their team are apparently quite fearless people. "Peter and the Wolf". Before we talk about the Bergson, the new “art power plant” in the west of Munich, which has now started with the first of five “housewarming” parties, and before we talk about the party mood and fine drinks, about the around 400 people in the building and – at least - just as many congratulations, first of all: “Peter and the Wolf”. In Prokofiev's work from 1936, children learn to listen closely and consciously engage with music, art and its making. So much for the pedagogical superstructure. “Peter and the Wolf” is simply a damn good story, which is probably the main reason for its success.

The Bergson Art Power Plant celebrates its opening with five “housewarming” parties

Either way: The makers of Bergson cannot be celebrated loudly enough for opening their rooms with this piece on Tuesday (April 9, 2024), before the party starts in the atrium: illustrator Adam Higton created “Peter and the Wolf” animated as a cartoon; Members of the state orchestra played Prokofiev. From now on, here in Aubing it's all about art, it's about listening, looking and enjoying.

But – and this makes the opening track choice even better – the Bergson story is also damn good. Just as Peter is not afraid of the wolf, Michael and Christian Amberger and their team are apparently quite fearless people. Until the day of the opening of this new cultural venue, they had shown no fear of bureaucracy (although it can be something to fear) or of a large construction site (work, work, work) and certainly not of the fact that hardly anyone is currently investing heavily in the want to invest in culture. It takes someone of Peter's caliber not to get into trouble.

Just as Prokofiev's hero delivers the wolf safely to the zoo at the end, the Bergson crew has also tamed everything that had to/should/wanted to be tamed since the start of planning in 2015 - now it's time to celebrate. There will be “housewarming” every evening until Saturday, the ideal opportunity to get to know the parts of the former thermal power plant that are already accessible while enjoying drinks and snacks (and the incredibly friendly, competent service). “There will be a lot more to come,” promises Roman Sladek and calls on the guests: “Bring the Bergson to life!” Then the artistic director of the house takes up his trombone and plays a very casual one together with drummer Marco Dufner and keyboard wizard Georg Stirnweiß Mix of jazz and electronic music. A fresh sound in the West – driving, excitingly different. He only knows one direction: forward.
