Cate Blanchett, Catherine Deneuve, Uma Thurman, Adèle Exarchopoulos...: the stars expected this year at the Cannes Film Festival

The veil lifts on the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. This Thursday, April 11, Thierry Frémaux and Iris Knobloch, its co-presidents, unveiled from the UGC Normandie on the Champs Élysées, in Paris, the selection for the event which will take place from May 14 to 25. On the program: competition regulars, emerging talents as well as essential French and Hollywood stars.

The first climb of the stairs promises to create an event with Quentin Dupieux's film,

, which brings together in its cast, Vincent Lindon, Léa Seydoux, Louis Garrel and Raphaël Quenard, César of male revelation, the rising and all terrain of French cinema. On the French side, Daniel Auteuil will follow for his film

, presented in special screenings, or Benjamin Lavernhe for

by Emmanuel Courcol (Cannes Première selection). Noémie Merlant returns, for her part, as director to the midnight screening to present her second film,

, after a notable first feature film (

Among the two most anticipated climbs of the steps of this 77th edition, we will undoubtedly count that of the film by Christophe Honoré for his film

in which Chiara Mastroianni plays the role of her father, Marcello Mastroianni, opposite her mother, Catherine Deneuve, his ex-companion Benjamin Biolay and his friend Melvil Poupaud. Facing the director of

, in the official competition: Gilles Lellouche. The actor and director had already seduced the Croisette with his film

, screened at the closing of the festival six years ago. He is competing this year for

, a romantic and ultraviolent comedy adapted from the novel by Neville Thompson. The pitch? In the 1980s, two teenagers grow up in an inner city and want to get out. In the cast: Adèle Exarchopoulos, François Civil, Alain Chabat, Benoît Poelvoorde, Vincent Lacoste, Jean-Pascal Zadi, and even Mallory Wanecque. Still in the official selection, Jacques Audiard will present his musical comedy

Hollywood Boulevard

With its international reputation, the Cannes Film Festival celebrates films from around the world and, despite the long screenwriters' strike in the United States which froze many filmings in 2023, the Croisette will once again welcome big names from the Hollywood industry. As lead, Francis Ford Coppola will present

, with Adam Driver, Cate Blanchett, Forest Whitaker and Michelle Pfeiffer in the cast. Kevin Costner will unveil in a world premiere and out of competition the first opus of
