The function of watching films together from different locations is no longer available. Now Amazon Prime is responding to customer criticism.
Munich – A series that was started together and continued to be watched alone is perceived by many as a breach of friendship. Some streaming services offer an extra function so that you can watch films together even in separate cities. This has been possible since 2020 with Amazon Prime Video’s “Watch Party”. However, this function is no longer available.
Despite ad-free subscription – Watch Party no longer available
Since February 5, 2024, the Watch Party has only been accessible to subscribers with the ad-free option, as
golem.de
reports. While the standard subscription costs 8.99 euros per month, you have to pay 2.99 euros more for the ad-free service. This also included access to the Watch Party. Netflix is also increasing prices.
At the beginning of April, users reported in an Amazon forum that the function was no longer available in this subscription model. “The Watch Party no longer works... I just pay extra so that I can use the Watch Party function with the Ad Free subscription... but now it no longer works. Are there any hints/changes regarding this?” writes one user.
Customers are upset about Amazon's lack of information
In fact, Watch Party is no longer present on Amazon Prime. The group confirms the deactivation of the function in a help document. “Please note that the option to create a Prime Video Watch Party is no longer available. If you have a link to an active Watch Party, you can participate in that Watch Party until the link expires,” the document reads.
Amazon Prime customers are upset about the loss of the function. “You have to pay extra and then you don’t even get what you pay for. I expect immediate clarification!” writes a user in the forum. “I canceled the subscription immediately and was supposed to receive a refund. How can that be? I would also like a written explanation.”
Streaming provider Amazon Prime plans to “invest resources in other functions”
In response to a query from
IPPEN.MEDIA,
Prime responded as follows: “We launched Watch Party 2020 to enable customers to enjoy Prime Video with friends and family in a safe way. As part of current updates, the Watch Party feature will be removed on March 31, 2024. Prime Video will remain innovative in the interests of customers and invest resources in other functions.”
