A Chinese research team led by Tong Liu from Capital Medical University in Beijing has come to the conclusion that skipping breakfast has a cancer-promoting effect. In their study published in the

the study authors wrote: "Habitually skipping breakfast was associated with a higher risk of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, esophagus, stomach, colon, liver, gallbladder and the extrahepatic bile ducts”.
For their analysis, the researchers evaluated data from almost 63,000 people. They compared the occurrence of gastrointestinal cancer and the breakfast frequency of the study participants. 369 test subjects developed gastrointestinal cancer during the follow-up period of five to six years. “Participants who ate breakfast once or twice a week had an increased risk of stomach and liver cancer. Participants who did not eat breakfast had an increased risk of esophageal cancer, colon cancer, liver cancer, gallbladder cancer and extrahepatic bile duct cancer,” the study authors wrote about their study results.
