Munich – Any consumer can actually lose their appetite. This does not mean the very rotten-looking products in the fruit display or the damage to the vegetables that are lying around on the store shelves and that have certainly been inspected in advance by many consumers. The pale-looking rolls in the bread display are also not meant. It is the recurring recalls of products that are now likely to upset many people's stomachs when shopping.

Just yesterday there was a warning about several types of cheese at Rewe; Today the recall was even expanded again. Last week there were also warnings from the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety about various types of cheese from different manufacturers that were sold in Kiel, Flensburg and Lübeck, among others. The trigger for these recalls was always Listeria, which was discovered during routine checks. Again and again, these and many other contaminated products find their way into the food trade despite strict controls and hygiene regulations.

Käserei is recalling three varieties: Listeria is also the reason for the recall

Now a manufacturer from Pellworm is warning about three of its types of cheese. The cheese dairy has now announced that microbiological contamination has been detected or “cannot be ruled out”. Reason for the recall

Microbiological contamination (Listeria monocytogenes) cannot be ruled out

Recall of a cheese dairy from Pellworm: Listeria leads to vomiting and diarrhea and even kidney complications

The smart-sounding word “Listeria” is not to be trifled with at all. Listeria (Listeria monocytogenes) is a bacteria that can cause infectious diseases, especially in people with weakened immune systems. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) points this out on its website. Symptoms of an infection usually appear within a few days and include flu-like symptoms such as fever, body aches, vomiting and diarrhea.

Children can even experience serious kidney complications. In very rare cases, severe cases can lead to sepsis or meningitis. Pregnant women are particularly at risk.

Cheese recall due to Listeria risk: Consumer protection advises taking precautionary measures

Consumer protection therefore advises - especially risk groups such as older people or pregnant women - to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from becoming ill with listeria. The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) points out that you should pay attention to the temperature recommendations on the packaging of products and, if possible, consume the food on the day of purchase as soon as the refrigeration temperatures cannot be maintained.

According to the BfR, leftover cooked food should be stored in the refrigerator and consumed within three days. Furthermore, frozen foods should be defrosted in the refrigerator to reduce germ contamination. The refrigerator temperature should be a maximum of seven degrees Celsius.
