Fan drives 115 km to the Globus supermarket because meatloaf is supposed to be so good there - the shock follows

2024-04-19T19:16:12.091Z

Highlights: A Facebook user claims to have driven 115 km for meatloaf in Krefeld, Germany. He says he wanted to buy a meat loaf roll for one euro, but then the shock apparently followed on site. He changed his plans and took some to bake himself. The result is delicious, 10x better than the one from Kaufland, he says. But he still thinks the one at Spezi-Metzger tastes better, he adds. The Facebook post has received several hundred likes in the first two days or so. It has also attracted more than 100 comments, many of them about the man's story. The man's information cannot be verified, but his story is not made up either. The post has also received more than 1,000 likes in just two days, according to Wojciech Wols' site.

On Facebook, the trip of a foodie who made a special trip to a distant Globus supermarket is causing discussions: “Who will drive 115 km for meatloaf?” – “Me.”

Krefeld – Some people would literally drive to the end of the world for their favorite dish. A Facebook user's journey supposedly took him not quite that far, but still a decent distance. Mind you, his information cannot be verified. What he describes in a Facebook group sounds pretty unbelievable, but not made up either: He drove more than 100 kilometers for a meat loaf roll.

This specialty – whatever it may be called regionally, we call it “liver cheese rolls” – has been the subject of emotional discussion on the internet since yesterday. There are particularly bad examples. But also ones that make fans cheer. The name of the supermarket chain Globus is often mentioned positively - it seems to have set itself up as a lure to lure liver cheese fans with a good price-performance ratio. In the case of the Facebook user, probably with success.

“10x better than Kaufland”: Belgians are first disappointed at Globus – and then happy

He writes: “Yesterday we drove an extra 115 km to the nearest globe. (I live in Belgium and had to go to Krefeld). Their meatloaf is supposed to be so good. Then I wanted to buy a meat loaf roll for one euro.” But then the shock apparently followed on site. “Around 12:30 no more meatloaf. Just coarse and with cheese.” He changed his plans. “Then took some to bake yourself. Baked this morning for breakfast. The result is delicious, 10x better than the one from Kaufland. However, I think the one from the Spezi-Metzger tastes better. Of course taste is personal.”

There are five photos for this experience report. Which leave hardly any remaining doubts that the man is telling the truth and is really ready for a bit of meatloaf. There were several hundred likes for his post in the first two days or so. And more than 100 comments. Of course, there are two obvious ones: “Where is the special butcher?” So in Wolsdorf near Helmstedt in Lower Saxony – it seems like an El Dorado for the Leberkäse community.

“Who will drive 115 km for meatloaf?” – “Me”

The other obvious question also gets numerous “likes”: “Who will drive 115 km for meatloaf?” The Facebook user answers with a simple “I” including laughing emojis. Not only is he a foodie, he also likes to drive. In this way, the two could be combined, even if it obviously makes neither ecological nor financial sense. But one user can understand it: “For example, I drive 240 km for Kibbeling if I want exactly THAT.” Another doesn't: “Well, if you have nothing else to do but drive over 100 km for meatloaf.”

The Belgian goes to Globus for Leberkäse and also to Germany for Paulaner-Spezi

To the comment “That was an expensive meat loaf,” the Belgian responded with “We don’t have it here at all.” Globus customers seem to be particularly fond of German specialties. He goes to Aachen every two to three weeks for something different, he adds – and shows a photo of a bottle of Paulaner-Spezi. Incidentally, a blind test revealed a competing product with a better taste.

But back to the Belgian meatloaf fan: The comments also show that gourmets help each other: “Respect for taking the long way. I live only eight minutes from Globus Krefeld. Let me know next time and I'll reserve something for you!” The Belgian car could quickly fill up with this offer... Schnitzels are also hotly discussed online, such as this example and its “completely insane price”.
