(CNN Spanish) - Maybe if Donald Trump had been better informed he would not have offended the Danes and the Greenlanders in the way he has done.

The president of the United States planned to travel to Denmark in early September, but recently sent a tweet in which he stated that the United States was willing to buy Greenland from the Danish kingdom.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen replied that it was an "absurd" proposition, as Greenland was not for sale. Trump, I guess affected by a childish rage attack, canceled the visit.

You are right Mette Frederiksen. In 2008 the Greenlanders voted in a referendum for self-determination. They and not the Danes are the owners of their destiny.

Gone are the times when the monarchs sold or gave away their territories with the inhabitants they had inside, as happened with Louisiana, Florida or Alaska.

But even before the current incident, in 1982, the Greenlanders had shown signs of quite independence, when they left the European Union, against the criteria of Denmark, proclaiming their right to fish whales, something that is part of the traditional Inuit cuisine.

Located in the Arctic. Greenland is the largest island on the planet with more than 2 million square kilometers (larger than Mexico), but with only about 57,000 inhabitants due to the climatic conditions of the place. 80% are under the ice.

Of that population, more than 85% are what are popularly known as "Eskimales", 9% Danish and the rest of diverse origins.

Trump did not clarify what he planned to do with those villagers in case they had sold him the Island. To grant them American citizenship, despite his rejection of immigrants?

Perhaps that explains a poster that a Greenlandic placed: How are Greenlanders different from Donald Trump? In that the Greenlanders are not for sale.
