(CNN) - Greenland could be the new fashion travel destination, thanks to President Donald Trump.

Since Trump expressed interest in buying Greenland (and Denmark's premier called it absurd), some travel groups, along with the territory's tourism board, have seen an increase in interest in vacation packages and tours of the territory.

When Trump announced his consideration on August 16, Nordic Visitor saw a significant increase in online users who saw his vacation packages.

"The traffic to our Greenland site increased by more than 2,800%, compared to the same date in 2018," the travel agency said in a statement to CNN Travel. "Traffic in progress has increased more than 600% than last year since last Friday."

Nordic said 69% of this week's visits to its Greenland site were from the US, representing a 31% increase over the equivalent weekly percentage of 2018 of 38%.

And when the president tweeted an image of the Trump Tower in Greenland, traffic increased again. This time, it was more than 1,200% compared to last year.

"I promise not to do this to Greenland!" Trump tweeted.

"We hope that this recent interest will inspire more travelers from the United States to experience Greenland," Nordic said.

Intrepid Travel has also seen a dramatic change in the interest of site visitors who observe their Greenland offerings.

MIRA: Why is President Trump interested in buying Greenland?

The tour operator saw a 237% increase in traffic to his Greenland pages over the weekend, after the frenzy around Trump's comments.

Intrepid said he still did not have specific reservation data, because he began offering trips to Greenland a few weeks ago.

"While we have previously offered cruise trips to Greenland, this is our first land-based product that allows customers to immerse themselves further in culture and support local businesses," said Intrepid Travel regional product manager for Europe, Steph Millington.

"Tourism is emerging here in contrast to the most popular destinations, so with the growing demand of Greenland, everything depends on the pioneers to set a precedent to visit the territory in a responsible and sustainable way for those who can follow in their footsteps."

Greenland's tourism sector is fragile because it is still quite young.

It is one of the few places left on Earth that can be described as remote and wild. There are icebergs towers instead of skyscrapers. Small settlements on the coast continue to depend on subsistence fishing to survive.

Part of the reason why so many new tours are offered to Greenland now is because of the climate crisis, which ironically makes the area more accessible for visitors.

Recently, Greenland's ice sheet lost 11,000 million tons of ice in a single day. That equals 4.4 million Olympic pools.
