2019-08-28T11:35:04.991Z

CSU leader Söder has called for federal agencies to be relocated to eastern Germany and "every cowshed" to be connected to the Internet. Green Party chief Robert Habeck sees difficult coalition negotiations on the parties. But not that.

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) has spoken out in favor of the relocation of federal authorities to East Germany. It does not have to be everything in Berlin. "I think in the new countries we would have a suitable place," said Söder in front of about 3,000 visitors in Erfurt, Thuringia.

In addition, the CSU leader recommended strengthening rural areas through digitization - with connections in every village "and honestly in every cowshed," Söder said. Once again he spoke in favor of special economic regions. These could, according to Söder, give new impetus to economic development.

In Brandenburg and Saxony will be elected this weekend, the state election in Thuringia will follow at the end of October. The coalition negotiations could be complicated, especially in Saxony. According to polls, a coalition between CDU, SPD and Greens would be possible.

"Never before so difficult soundings"

Green Party chief Robert Habeck recently highlighted the differences between the CDU and the Greens. For an alliance there is "no automatism at all, on the contrary". Probably there had been "never so difficult soundings" because "the opposition was practiced for a long time and the content intersections were zero". In view of the situation, the Greens are ready for talks, decide on an alliance "decisively the electoral success of the Greens" next Sunday.

Group leader of the Greens in the Bundestag, Katrin Göring-Eckardt, has demanded from the Saxon CDU a clear commitment against right wing. "The Sachsen-CDU has in parts a real problem," she told the editorial network Germany. "Coalitions with the Union are only conceivable for the Greens when the border to the right is clearly drawn."

The Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer had made "very clear" that the former constitutional protection president Hans-Georg Maassen does not represent his positions and the AfD "certainly not". However, the Union must basically "think about what it looks like with AfD cooperation at the local level," said the Green Party politician.

The CDU leader Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer had finally stated that there would be no cooperation with the AfD. Later, however, it turned out that there are collaborations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, for example.
