In Gaza Strip bomb attacks, three policemen died during the night of Wednesday. According to the Palestinian Interior Ministry, two Gaza police checkpoints have been shattered by explosions.
Eyewitnesses talked about suicide attacks. The Gaza Strip was put on high alert because of the attacks. On the streets, there was a heightened presence of Islamist Hamas in power in the enclave.
Salafist group suspected
The attacks on late Tuesday evening had been perpetrated by suicide bombers on motorcycles, eyewitnesses reported. The Ministry of the Interior initially did not confirm this information and spoke only of "bomb attacks".
According to investigators, a Salafist group from the Gaza Strip is suspected of sympathizing with the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS). Hamas, which has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007, is repeatedly criticized by Salafist groups for whom it is not radical enough.
