The German army is suffering from a shortage of basic needs, the newspaper De Welt said in a report, adding that its weapons are in poor condition and not ready to defend the country.
The reporter noted that the condition of military equipment in the German army is poor. "Airplanes do not fly, tanks do not go and guns do not fire," he said, also citing a significant lack of basic personal needs for soldiers, especially military boots.
German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyne last year requested an additional 25 billion euros for the military, noting that the armed forces will demand this amount over the next four years.
The German army is currently struggling with the pilots' complaints of low flight training, reduced fleet funding and a suspension of Tiger combat helicopters.
According to German media, after Deir Line took command of the German army in 2013, many military equipment fell, many of them out of service, and the number of military air transport planes in Germany fell dramatically in 2014 and the number of Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems in 2016.
