The deterioration of Japan-Korea relations will not stop. Abandoned the military information comprehensive protection agreement (GSOMIA) that the Japanese side thought it was. In 54 years since the normalization of diplomatic relations, no breakthrough has been seen and this is a serious situation.

I have lived in the United States since 1993 and have been observing the international situation, but there is little news about the conflict between Japan and Korea. I haven't seen it on the three major US networks or news channels. Even newspapers with relatively extensive international coverage have posted commentary articles as an extension of “Regional News of Each Country”, and there is almost no reaction.

US Department of Defense and US Department of Defense experts may have expressed concern about South Korea, but US President Trump is not so concerned. It may have been revealed that the security framework between Japan, the United States and South Korea has become fragile.

Mr. Trump, the ultimate nationalist principle, has stated that no matter how many missile launches North Korea repeats, it will not be a problem if it is too short to reach its own country. It seems that he is more confident in his personal relationship with North Korea ’s chairman, Kim Jong-un, the Korean Labor Party, than whether it is a strategic threat to the US and Japan and Korea.

Mr. Trump originally thought he was good at negotiating money, rather than security, on a one-on-one basis. So you may think that Japan and Korea are getting hot, even if it is an opportunity to draw more favorable conditions from Japan and Korea.

Is the Japanese government drawing any exit strategy ahead of the destruction of GSOMIA by Korea this time? If you don't have a strategy, you just want to intensify the conflict with South Korea and expect the US curtain, it's a problem. Without Mr. Trump's interest, it is difficult to expect mediation and pressure in the United States.

The US once criticized Shinzo Abe as a historical revisionist who was particular about the honor of Axis Japan. In December 2013, Prime Minister Abe suddenly visited Yasukuni Shrine, and then the US Ambassador to Japan Kennedy expressed disappointment. South Korea is trying to close up the history of Japan, but the United States will remain calm unless the Prime Minister visits Yasukuni Shrine again.

I want Japan and Korea to be calm anyway. If you continue to intensify the conflict, you will find that it will only cause damage to both Japan and South Korea, but it will not produce anything.

Now is the time for countries to join hands to stop the global recession in the face of the US-China trade friction and global stock prices. The world is chillingly wondering why Japan and South Korea, where the country has been established by exporting industrial products to the global market, are countering each other. As long as both countries' media and public opinion are concerned, I think that we can still make a voluntary solution. (Interviewer, Shingo Ikeda)
