Greta Thunberg demonstrates for the first time in the USA

Climate activist Greta Thunberg needed 15 days to travel with a sailing yacht from England to the USA. Having arrived in New York, she has now done what she has made famous: demonstrating on a Friday for climate protection.

Two days after their arrival in New York, Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg participated for the first time in a school strike for a better climate policy. The 16-year-old demonstrated in front of the main building of the United Nations together with about a hundred young people.

Thunberg himself did not speak at the protests. The New York initiator of the climate strike, Alexandria Villasenor, announced that she would continue the weekly protests in front of the UN on the big global day of action on 20 September. In three weeks, Thunberg wants to take part in a large demonstration of various environmental organizations in the south of Manhattan. Adults are also explicitly invited to participate.

Thunberg arrived in New York on Wednesday after a two-week journey on a climate-neutral sailing yacht. In the United States, she would like to attend the United Nations Youth Climate Summit and the United Nations Climate Change Summit of Heads of State and Government. She also announced that she would meet other climate change activists, decision makers and stakeholders. In December, Thunberg wants to continue to the world climate conference in South American Chile.

The young people first sat down in front of the Swedish parliament about a year ago to demand from politicians more efforts in the fight against the climate crisis and thus started a worldwide movement.
