The United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, has called for an investigation into the massacre committed by Saudi aggression planes by shelling a prison in Dhamar province that left dozens of people dead and injured.
"Accountability must prevail," Griffiths said in a joint statement with Yemen Humanitarian Coordinator Liz Grande. "Today's event is the tragedy of the human cost of this unbearable war. We need to stop it.
"The loss is staggering," said Grande.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Yemen confirmed that 52 prisoners were among the dead and at least 68 are still missing and the losses are likely to increase as rescue efforts continue.
Around 60 people were killed and dozens wounded in a Saudi-led coalition offensive against prisoners at the Community College in central Dhamar province.
