(CNN) - Hurricane Dorian reached maximum sustained winds of 160 miles per hour (257 kilometers per hour), according to the National Hurricane Center, which raises this system to category 5, the maximum on the Saffir-Simpson scale.
Dorian could cause catastrophic damage as he moves to the Bahamas this Sunday.
It is likely that in the next 24 hours there will be fluctuations in intensity, but the forecast anticipates that it will maintain its strength.
The National Hurricane Center reported that the worst weather conditions in the hurricane, in the area known as the eye wall, are about to hit the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas.
