(CNN) - Pope Francis was rescued by firefighters after being trapped in an elevator for 25 minutes, before his weekly speech this Sunday.
Francisco apologized to the crowds gathered in St. Peter's Square, Vatican City on Sunday, after being late for his weekly speech.

Addressing the crowd, he explained: “Dear brothers and sisters, good morning. First of all, I have to apologize for being late, but I had an unexpected event, I've been stuck in an elevator for 25 minutes. ”

The Pope said there was "a voltage drop" and that the elevator stopped.
"Thank God, firefighters arrived, and I thank them very much, and after 25 minutes of work they managed to start over," he said.
"A round of applause for firefighters!" He added.
