At least six people die in attack on a mayoral candidate in Cauca, Colombia

(CNN Spanish) - The Ombudsman of Colombia regretted the attack against a mayoral candidate by the municipality of Suárez, in the department of Cauca, which left at least six people dead.

The candidate Karina García Sierra, who died in the attack, ran for mayor of the municipality of Suarez by 2020. García Sierra denounced last Wednesday from her social networks, harassment and threats by armed groups.

"We condemn the massacre with pain," the Ombudsman posted on his Twitter account.

Colombian Defense Minister Guillermo Botero announced Monday that he will move to Cauca next to the military dome to "lead actions against terrorists."

Following instructions from Pte @IvanDuque, in the next few hours I will be next to the military dome in Cauca, leading the actions against terrorists.

Criminals will be prosecuted until they lose the full weight of the Law.

The Colombian authorities have not yet offered details of the motive behind the attack or pointed out possible perpetrators.
