(CNN) - Hurricane Dorian is moving slowly toward the east coast of Florida and could be the most recent of several category 5 hurricanes to endanger parts of the United States in recent years.

Here is a review of the last category 5 hurricanes that have threatened the United States:
Hurricane Irma
One of the strongest hurricanes in the Atlantic basin ever recorded outside the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea affected at least nine states in the United States in September 2017.

Dorian continues to impact the Abaco and Grand Bahama Islands. The hurricane, the strongest on the planet this year, is forecast to hit the region during the night and for much of Monday. Although the projection may vary, it is expected that it may reach the east coast of Florida on Tuesday.
