(CNN) - Dorian leaves an "unprecedented" devastation in the Bahamas, according to the island's prime minister, Hubert Minnis. Although hurricane winds have slowed, the storm is currently over Grand Bahama and does not move much, so it remains dangerous.

1. Dorian is the strongest hurricane that has hit the Bahamas

With winds of up to 185 mph (297 kilometers per hour) Hurricane Dorian is the strongest hurricane that has ever hit the Bahamas.

Dorian, which hit the Bahamas as a category 5 storm, was classified as a category 4 hurricane on Monday.

2. It is the strongest storm on the planet this year

The monstrous storm made landfall on the east end of Grand Bahama Island on Sunday night and will continue to hit the island for most of Monday as it moves toward the southeastern coast of the United States. He is leaving "catastrophic damage" in the Bahamas, where he claimed at least one life.
