(CNN) - The slow hurricane Dorian, category 5, continues to hit the Bahamas. It is the strongest storm anywhere on the planet this year.

Residents of the east coast of the southern US have been warned. UU. Be prepared for hurricane winds, although forecasts vary when and where you can land, from Florida to the Carolinas.

10:00 AM

Bahamas: “unprecedented” devastation

Bahamas Prime Minister Hubert Minnis called Dorian's devastation "unprecedented" in a tweet to his official Twitter account on Monday.

"Grand Bahama still feels the impact of hurricane category 5," Minnis said in the tweet. "According to Abaco reports, the devastation is unprecedented."

“The winds have decreased to 165 mph (265 kilometers per hour), but Dorian remains an extremely dangerous storm. Our focus at this time is rescue, recovery and prayer. ”

Dorian's slow pace

The eye of Hurricane Dorian, which is currently over Grand Bahama, does not move much, according to the 8 am ET update of the National Hurricane Center. Dorian is forecast to move slowly northwestward the next day, followed by a gradual turn northwest, the center said.
