They send the fires

Forest fires that have ravaged more than 1,100,000 hectares in Bolivia are gradually being reduced. According to the commander of the Bolivian armed forces, Williams Kalimán, the fires in that area of the department of Santa Cruz had decreased from 662 to 383 on August 31.

The water discharged in the affected area already exceeds 4,250,000 liters and much of this water has been discharged by the Supertanker Boeing 747 tanker, contracted by the government of Bolivia and with a capacity of 150,000 liters of water.

According to the National Space Research Institute, the INPE of Brazil, the country suffered 13,396 fires in August, an increase of 422% over the previous month.

Commander Kaliman informed the Bolivian Information Agency - ABI - that land operations total 356 and that the strongest focus is on Santa Teresita and Lajas where the supertanker is operating.

The state is not overwhelmed

In statements collected by ABI, the Minister of Communication of Bolivia, Manuel Canelas, said Sunday that the Bolivian state "is not overwhelmed" in economic or technical resources that force it to declare a national disaster due to fires. It is a request made by municipal authorities, departments and even prominent politicians in the face of the seriousness of the situation.

But Canelas says that the refusal of his government is not because of pride or whim but because for now the State can respond to the situation.
