Washington (CNN) - President Donald Trump spent Monday visiting his Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, and tweeting political grievances as a giant hurricane prepares to impact the east coast of the United States.

Trump's visit to the Trump National golf club marked the day 289 that has happened on his property and the day 227 that has happened in one of his golf clubs during his tenure.

The president spoke Monday with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis, a Republican, said at a press conference that Trump is "fully committed" to federal, state and local officials. And while the president spent a few hours playing golf in his field outside Washington, he was informed "every hour" about Hurricane Dorian, said White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham.

But early Monday morning, Trump's attention was, at least in part, on other things. He promoted the economy on Twitter. He attacked political enemies, including former FBI director James Comey and the four color Democratic congressmen known as "The Squad." And he used Labor Day to tweet an attack on the president of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), Richard Trumka, and wrote that “he likes what we are doing until the cameras turn on. Previously, Trumka appeared on Fox News criticizing the Trump administration for the trade agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada, aimed at replacing NAFTA (known in English as NAFTA), which has not yet received a vote in Congress.

Trump also retweeted the National Hurricane Center's warnings about the storm, but he hadn't written any missives about the hurricane since Sunday.

Hurricane Dorian, a slow-moving giant, continues to hit the Bahamas. In the United States, residents of the south east coast have been warned to prepare for hurricane winds, although forecasts vary when and where they can land, from Florida to the Carolinas. At its strength, Dorian was a category 5 hurricane, the highest possible. On Monday morning, it was reclassified as category 4.

Trump said Sunday: "I'm not sure you've heard of a category 5 hurricane," despite the fact that four storms of this type, including Hurricane Dorian, have threatened the United States since taking office.

“We don't even know what is coming towards us. All we know is that it is possibly the largest. I have ... I am not sure I have heard of a Category 5. I knew it existed. And I've seen some of category 4, you don't even see them that much, ”Trump said Sunday at an informational meeting with officials at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) headquarters.

CNN's Devan Cole and Kaitlan Collins contributed to this report.
