Doaa Hossam Al-Din, 25 years old, the General Authority of the College of Surgical Hospital at Ibn Al-Nafees Medical Complex in Damascus retreated about a year and a half ago to follow up her status after a successful kidney transplant.
The kidney transplant started in the hospital about 18 years ago and continued despite the effects of the war and unilateral economic measures imposed on Syria, according to the head of the department of transplantation Dr. Ahmed Suleiman, who showed that it performs on average 70 transplants annually compared to about 100 before the war.
Suleiman stressed that “all operations have been successful and conducted with national expertise”, noting that the hospital conducts all routine analyzes and consultations free of charge, while it does not have some qualitative analyzes, so patients have to conduct them outside the hospital.
According to Suleiman, the kidney transplant is difficult because a child with renal impairment has a growth deficiency and often has an adult kidney transplant as well as risks. Bleeding and anesthesia;
Dr. Kifah Barawi, assistant director of the Authority, pointed out that the kidney transplantation started in the hospital since 2001 for different ages within an independent department that provides preparation services for the patient before and after the transplantation of analyzes and medicines, pointing out that the department has been rehabilitated and expanded recently as the number of rooms increased from 10 to 20 rooms with Modernization of operating rooms, surgical tables and sterilization department.
The hospital, which has a capacity of 784 beds, received 10,026 clinic referrals during the same period and 12,223 ambulance department auditors who provided 206 thousand services.
