(CNN) - Howard Armstrong, a resident of Freeport, Bahamas, described how his wife drowned in front of him after Hurricane Dorian storm hit his home.
"We were fine until the water continued to rise and all appliances circulated around the house, like the washing machine," said Armstrong, who is a crab fisherman.
Armstrong said water flooded the house to the point that his wife had to climb on top of her kitchen cabinets.
Only their heads were on the water. After waiting hours in the flooded house, Armstrong's wife succumbed to hypothermia and slipped underwater.
"He left so fast," Armstrong said as he waited for his wife's body to be recovered.
Armstrong said he then "took a chance" and swam out of the house, and was rescued.
