(CNN) - Something huge and unexpected has just happened at the US Open: the group of "big 3" in the men's tournament has been reduced to just one.
A renqueante number 3 of the world, Roger Federer, was surprised by Grigor Dimitrov, and the Bulgarian, not classified, advanced to the semifinals after winning with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6 -two.
It is the first time Dimitrov, 28, defeats Federer in eight attempts. He will now face fifth-placed Daniil Medvedev, who defeated Stan Wawrinka on Tuesday, seeded number 23. Dimitrov and Medvedev split wins in their previous two games, in 2017. Neither of them has reached a Grand Slam final.

The departure of the 38-year-old Swiss comes after the No. 1 in the world, Novak Djokovic; The 32-year-old Serb withdrew from his match in the round of 16 against Wawrinka on Sunday due to shoulder problems.
The only member of the big 3 left? That would be the 18-time Grand Slam champion and world number 2, Rafael Nadal, who is in the other half of the tournament key. The 33-year-old Spaniard is still chasing Federer, who leads the all-time men's list with 20 major titles, while trying to take distance from Djokovic, who is 16.
