Russian special envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiyev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin discussed with an Iraqi delegation headed by National Security Advisor Faleh Fayyad in Moscow today a number of regional issues, especially the situation in Syria and Iraq and the continuation of the war on terrorism.
"The two sides discussed the tasks of achieving sustainable stability and security in the Middle East through a diplomatic political settlement of crises on the basis of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States without any external interference," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev discussed with Fayyad in Moscow the day before yesterday the situation in Syria and various aspects of Russian-Iraqi political interaction and issues of military and technical cooperation.
