(CNN Spanish) - The disappearance of Blanca Fernández Ochoa, Spanish Olympic ski medalist, has raised great expectations in Spain. According to sources confirmed by the National Police to CNN, Fernandez's absence dates back to last Friday, August 23 after visiting his sister's home in Aravaca (Madrid).

His brother-in-law, Adrián Federighi, told national media that the athlete had reported that he would be absent for four days to go hiking. But after the conference and not hearing from her, her daughter decided to go to the authorities on Thursday, August 29 to report the disappearance.

In order to facilitate the search work, the police spread this Saturday the disappearance of Fernández Ochoa through social networks, informing about the details of the car in which he was traveling. A day later, on Sunday, September 1, they located the car in the municipality of Cercedilla, in the Sierra de Guadarrama area of Madrid.

From that moment on, a device formed by the National Police, Civil Guard, forestry agents and the Special Mountain Rescue Group, among others, was organized to begin the search for the medalist. They are works that extend in a land of about 3,500 hectares and with a very complicated orography, as detailed on Monday the spokesman of the Civil Guard Command, Mercedes Martín.

“Blanca comes here a lot and loves it. My hypothesis is that the storm came on Monday 26 (August) and then took refuge or crashed, ”said Dolores Fernández, sister of the medalist, who also participates in the search operation. "I think it will appear, she is a strong aunt," he added.

Despite the prominence of the device deployed in the Sierra, José Antonio Rodríguez, chief inspector of the Drugs and Organized Crime Unit of the National Police, said Monday that the investigation “is open in many other ways” and “other alternatives are studied ”To find his whereabouts.
